Vatani Pozdrowiona (2022) – Fantasy, Selfpublishing
“Vatani: Pozdrowiona” tells the story of a young female protagonist (daughter of the Emperor) who is drawn into the world of the mysterious Order of the Condemners of Good, beings called Vatani. Madeleine, although not a member of the Order, sees as the plot unfolds that her fate is inextricably linked to their actions.
The novel begins when Madeleine meets a mysterious man named Zerritan, who saves her life. Zerritan is a Vatan, a member of the Order who possesses magical powers. Madeleine is fascinated by his abilities and soon learns that there is a mysterious trial that will allow her to join the Order and enter Hexagon, the city of Vatans. Madeleine follows Zerritan through the Vestibule, an area populated by exiles and people left for dead. People gather around them, watching their passage with interest. Madeleine realizes that the trial ahead of her may end in death, but she is ready to face her own destiny.
As the story unfolds, Madeleine discovers that the Vatani often use manipulation, hiding the truth to live in the name of their own and inconsistent ideology. Nonetheless, Madeleine feels connected to the place and longs to become strong and independent, just as she believes the Vatani are. Once, through Zerritan, Madeleine discovers a mysterious room in the Vatani library that contains a stone charred by fire. The magician tells her the story of people who were supposed to undergo Saviel’s trial, but lost their lives in the process. This event makes Madeleine begin to wonder about the true nature of Vatan magic and her own place in this world. Her rebellion causes her to be forced to fight for her own life. In the midst of this struggle, she realizes how important the truth about her origin and destiny is in her life. In her name she is able to sacrifice everything.
